One race can change a lot for a horse and their connections, and that’s all Far Mo Power needed to lead this year’s Pennsylvania incentive award earners through the end of April.
The 6-year-old Uncle Lino gelding started his 2024 campaign on April 22 in the Page McKenney Handicap, a seven-furlong race for registered Pennsylvania-breds at Parx Racing.
Under jockey Dexter Haddock, Far Mo Power was sent out of the gate at a crawl, and he was as far back as 13 lengths behind Twisted Ride after the opening quarter-mile. He began to move with slightly more urgency as the field headed into the turn, and Haddock swung his mount widest of all at the top of the stretch.
Under mild right-handed urging, Far Mo Power mowed down his rivals down the middle of the track, and he crossed the wire 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Ninetyprcentmaddie.
It was Far Mo Power’s second career stakes victory, following the 2022 Parx Dirt Mile Stakes. In total, the gelding has won eight career starts for owner Joseph Sutton and trainer Louis Linder, Jr.
In winning the Page McKenney, Far Mo Power earned $79,200 in various Pennsylvania incentives for his connections.
The bulk of that money came in the $52,800 Far Mo Power picked up in state-restricted stakes earnings in the Page McKenney.
Registered Pennsylvania-breds by a state-resident sire earn a 10 percent bonus on purse for the stallion owner for first-through-third efforts at tracks within the state.
For his lone win before the end of April, Far Mo Power picked up $5,280 for Northview Stallion Station, the owner of sire Uncle Lino.
Uncle Lino currently sits in fourth among Pennsylvania sires by incentive earnings through the end of April, with $42,976. Uptowncharlybrown leads that category with $74,504.
Because Far Mo Power was both bred and sired in Pennsylvania, breeder Peter Giangiulio is eligible for a 40 percent breeder’s award purse bonus on earnings. He earned $21,120 for the gelding’s Page McKenney victory.
Far Mo Power is out of the stakes-placed Power by Far mare J. D. Safari, who is the dam of three winners from six foals to race. J. D. Safari produced a full-brother to Far Mo Power in 2024.
The extended family is highlighted by the Pennsylvania stakes winner Exceter.
