WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE CO. — Tuesday over 100 groomers and exercise riders who care for horses at the Mohegan Racetrack were celebrated in honor of Pennsylvania Horse Racing Caretakers Appreciation Day.
The day is meant to highlight the hard work and dedication that goes into caring for the racehorses off the track.
“The bond you create with the horses is literally unreal. You open the doors to the barn in the morning, all of their heads pop out, they start bickering and it’s actually wonderful. It’s really nice to be appreciated in our industry. Sometimes people don’t really know what we do so it was really cool for someone to appreciate what we do,” said Lisa Martin, a horse trainer and caretaker.
