Washington, PA — Elimination winners Captain Albano and Wish You Well will leave from post positions four and two, respectively, in Saturday’s $350,000 final of the Delvin Miller Adios Pace for the Orchids at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
The connections of those two got to select their post positions by virtue of their eliminations wins.
Captain Albano’s group won the shake and was the first to choose. Interestingly, neither elim winner picked post five, which is by far the “winningest” post position at The Meadows, sending out winners at a 19.2 percent clip. In the random draw for the balance of post positions, Clever Cody got the five hole.
The final figures to be wide open and exciting, with a variety of styles on display. Captain Albano overwhelmed his elimination field on the front end, facing no serious challenges in his 3-1/4 length victory in 1:49.2. Wish You Well, on the other hand, needed a jaw-dropping :25.2 final quarter to erase an eight-length deficit.
The Adios, which goes as race 15, anchors a blockbuster card featuring six Grand Circuit races. In addition, the program offers $200,000 in guaranteed pools spread over 11 wagers, making Saturday the “Richest Day in PA” for bettors. First post is 11:45 a.m.
