As reported by Bloodhorse back in September, PA-bred Smarty Jones — a champion and dual classic winner — will stand the 2019 breeding season at Equistar Farm in Annville for an advertised fee of $3,500.

Gaining notoriety as the 2004 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes champion, Smarty Jones’ Triple Crown hopes were spoiled as a second-place finisher to Birdstone in his lone career defeat at Belmont Stakes. Nevertheless, he finished the season earning champion 3-year-old male honors.

Now at a ripe age of 17, there is a demand for his return to the state by PA breeders. Previously standing for six seasons in the Commonwealth at both Ghost Ridge Farms and Northview, he is currently located at Haras La Concordia in Uruguay for the Southern Hemisphere breeding season — his fourth overall in the county.

On behalf of the PHRA, welcome home, Smarty Jones!
