Both 4-year-old fillies who have won graded stakes and are on winning streaks, Loyalty and Roses for Debra were the standouts in the field of 12 fillies who were entered Wednesday for Monday’s running of the Grade 2, $300,000 Presque Isle Downs Masters.
The one-turn, 6 1/2-furlong sprint on the all-weather course is the biggest race of the year at the Erie, Pa., track.
her last two starts, most recently coming home 2 1/2 lengths the best in the Hendrie (G3) on July 22 at Woodbine. That race also covered 6 1/2 furlongs on a synthetic surface. The Hard Spun filly owned by Gainesway Stable and LNJ Foxwoods and trained by Josie Carroll will be ridden again by Kazushi Kimura, who is 2-for-2 riding Loyalty.
With seven wins in her nine races, Roses for Debra won the Caress (G3) on July 22 and the Smart N Fancy on Aug. 25, both going 5 1/2 furlongs on Saratoga turf that was rated good. Undefeated in her four starts since she was transferred to trainer Christophe Clément, the Liam’s Map filly moves back to Presque Isle’s Tapeta course, on which she is 4-for-4. Irad Ortiz Jr., who rode her at Saratoga, will send her out of post 7 on Monday.
Open to fillies and mares, the Presque Isle Downs Masters drew 10 4-year-olds and two 3-year-olds. It is the seventh of nine races on Monday’s card. It is scheduled for 5:42 p.m. EDT. The first post is at 3 p.m.
