About The Track
Located just south of Erie in Summit Township, Pennsylvania, Presque Isle Downs features live Thoroughbred racing on its signature 1-mile synthetic Tapeta oval alongside a full-service casino with slots, table games, and sports betting.
TRACK HISTORY
Presque Isle Downs & Casino opened its doors in February 2007, with the track starting operations later that same year in September.
RACE HISTORY
Presque Isle Downs is home to The Masters Stakes, a Grade II stakes race open to fillies and mares that are three years old or older. It takes place across a distance of 6 ½ furlongs and is held annually in September.
TRACK FACTS
- The track is 1-mile long and surfaced with a synthetic material called Tapeta. It was the first synthetic horse racetrack longer than 1 mile (1.6 km) in the Northeast and the first racetrack paved with Tapeta in the United States.
- The casino opened in February 2007, and live Thoroughbred racing officially debuted on September 2, 2007.Â
- The Tapeta surface allows for consistent, safe racing condition performance during heavy rain and harsh weather in Northern Pennsylvania.Â
